Bolivia Dying Baby Flamingos
|
Baby Chilean Flamingos (Phoenicopterus chilensis) wander in the middle of the Uyuni salt desert in southern Bolivia. According to biologist Sol Aguilar, of the National Direction of Biodiversity, a late nesting triggered by extreme cold weather and severe droughts could be the cause why migratory Flamingos abandoned their babies and they start to appear in cities surrounding the Uyuni salt flats. Hungry, disoriented and often too weak to fly or fend for themselves on a hostile environment they are dying frozen or smashed by trucks and touristic ATVs.
