Underwater Creatures, Atlantic Ocean, MAR-ECO Project
|
The Mid-Atlantic Ridge Ecosystem Project is a field project of the Census of Marine Life that studies the macrofauna of the northern mid-Atlantic Ocean including the processes that control their distribution and community structures in the waters around the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. More specifically, the project gains information about what exists in the deep ocean, what roles do mid-ocean ridge systems play in the ocean, and how can scientists do research in extreme oceanic environments. The project is led by Odd Askel Bergstad of Norway.
The Census of Marine Life is a global network of researchers in more than 80 nations engaged in a 10-year scientific initiative to assess and explain the diversity, distribution, and abundance of life in the oceans. The world's first comprehensive Census of Marine Life—past, present, and future—will be released in 2010 in London.
