Ball: When picking a bowling ball provided by a bowling alley, it is recommended you choose a weight you are comfortable with. After deciding on a weight, check to see if your fingers can snuggly fit into the holes. The tight fit allow for maximum grip without causing the ball to get stuck to your fingers when you release. When buying your own custom ball, a ball should be drilled to the specifications of your hand. A custom ball will allow you to develop stronger muscle memory, as different bowling alleys can have slight variances in their bowling balls. Generally, bowlers throw with their thumb, middle and ring fingers in the holes.
Shoes: Bowling shoes possess an intermediate style between regular dressing shoes and the athletic type. The sole of the non sliding foot is generally made of rubber similar to that of a basketball sneaker to create stability, while the sliding foot is made of a much softer material that allows a bowler to slide into his release. These shoes can be bought, but they are normally rented.
