Paper Rolls Art By Anastassia Elias
|
These toilet tube dioramas were created by Anastassia Elias. A good artist doesn’t necessarily need expensive materials to do good work. French painter/collage artist proves this with the tiny scenes she creates inside of cardboard toilet-paper tubes.
Anastassia Elias is an assistant Professor with the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta. As a PhD student in Electrical and Computer Engineering she developed techniques for patterning a variety of materials on the micro and nanoscale to create thermally and chemically-responsive microactuator devices. During this degree she spent nearly 2 years in the Netherlands undertaking collaborative research with the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven and Philips Research. She also worked together with researchers from Brown University to study the alignment of liquid crystals in porous templates.
After completing her thesis work she lived in the US for 6 months before returning to Edmonton in August 2007 as a postdoctoral fellow under the supervision of Dr. Jillian Buriak of the NRC National Institute for Nanotechnology and the Department of Chemistry. During this appointment she designed and fabricated microfluidic devices for culturing human cortical neurons, as a part of a collaboration between our group and the group of Dr. Fabrizio Giuliani in the Department of Medicine. She also completed a study to investigate the stability of gold nanoparticles in human blood products.
