Typewriter Art By Keira Rathbone
|
Between the years 2002 and 2005 she studied Fine Art at UWE, Bristol specialising in self-taught subject of typewriter art. She developed and explored ways of creating images using different intensities of typed letters, numbers and punctuation marks.
Since graduating, she has revisited previous interests such as drawing and painting and has rediscovered her enjoyment of these techniques with new subject matters, always maintaining her (often evident) preoccupation with process. She thinks this motivation was inspired by moving back to Dorset and the beautiful surroundings; the sea and rivers, the forests and trees and plants, and the historical buildings. She has a new excitement and is inspired and focused on a range of projects and collaborations. She also found that the techniques she is learning on her jewellery & silversmithing course at The Bournemouth and Poole College are other new and exciting ways to express new ideas.
She currently has an exhibition of previous typed portraits on show at the recently opened 'SourceD clothing' in Boscombe's Royal Arcade (Dorset). Exhibition closes on the 30th January.
