Enanitos Toreros De Torreon Las Vegas
|
They call themselves “Enanitos Toreros”. It's a group of Mexican midget bullfighters whose shows attract thousands of visitors. "Midget Bullfighters" is the English translation of Enanitos Toreros, and a more apt description cannot be made. These are little people, actually fighting bulls. This bizarre entertainment form has been waving its red cape in Mexico for a long time, from its roots centuries ago in Spain, and rarely makes its appearance North of the border.
At Enanitos Toreros events, a little bull ring, ready to recieve small bulls, is surrounded by children and families. Little people entertain as clowns, rodeo riders, celebrity impersonators, and many other occupations. Kids love it! Adults are alternately entertained and worried. Size notwithstanding, those are real bulls, and bullfighting is a dangerous sport. The performers fight bulls in the standard Spanish way, armed only with a cape and heavy embroidery. The only difference is that these small warriors will not kill the bull. They fight until he is subdued.
Enanito Toreros travel together, in caravans with speakers blasting. "Tonight, in your town, we will kill you with laughter." Posters promote the midget and dwarf bullfighters, with pictures speaking thousands of words.
