All 33 Miners Rescued, 2010 Copiapó Mining Accident, Chile
|
Procedure
The miner is strapped into a harness inside the 21-inch-wide bullet-shaped capsule. He wears a green, moisture-resistant track suit and donated Oakley sunglasses so he won't be blinded by his first exposure to sunlight in ten weeks. The capsule, designed by NASA and constructed by the Chilean Navy includes oxygen masks, heart monitors, and video cameras.
The capsule spins slowly as it rises, ascending at a pace 1 metre per second (2.2 mph), in a ride that should take from 12 to 18 minutes.
