He is married to Cathleen Hollen and they have one child. Cathy’s parents reside in Enterprise, Alabama.
In 1989 he was selected by the U.S. Jaycees as one of "Ten Outstanding Young Men of America." In 1990 the Veterans of Foreign Wars selected Wheelock as an "Outstanding Spokesman for Freedom."
Education
Wheelock graduated from Windsor Central High School in Windsor in 1978. Received a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Science and Engineering from the United States Military Academy in 1983, and a Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1992. At Georgia Tech he was the team leader of the Aerial Robotics Design Team in 1992.
