According to a profile of the Duchess of Alba published in 2008 in The Independent, the biological father of Fernando "is widely reported to be Sevillian flamenco dancer Antonio, el bailarin (Antonio Ruiz Soler, 1921-1996)", which, the paper previously stated, was "a rumour the Alba family never denied". Antonio, el bailarin declared this parentage in his posthumously published memoirs, though the publication of that information in the Spanish magazine Interviú led a Spanish court to award the duchess 90,000 euros, calling it an assault on the aristocrat's honor "with ... intention to profit".
