• Mononofu (もののふ)
An ancient term meaning a warrior. Originally referred to a section of government under the Ritsuryō system composed of low-ranking civil servants who held posts as jailers, executioners, watchmen, gatekeepers, bodyguards, market supervisors, etc.
• Musha (武者)
A shortened form of bugeisha (武芸者), lit. martial artist.
