Otter Finger Touch Exhibit, Keikyu Aburatsubo Marine Park Aquarium, Misaki, Miura, Kanagawa, Japan
|
Keikyu Aburatsubo Marine Park is an accessible facility, about 90 minutes from the center of Tokyo. It is located in the east side of the Miura Peninsula, a scenic spot where you can have a panoramic view of Sagami Bay and even Mount Fuji, Izu Peninsula, and Izu Oshima on clear days. Although it is an aquarium with a long history that opened in 1968, it has the most advanced facilities and you will never get bored there.
In the "Doughnuts Sea," which is a huge, round tank, 3m-long sand tiger sharks swim around leisurely. You will feel like you are inside a submarine tunnel. You can see an adorable dolphin and seal performance in the "Fantasium," an all-weather indoor theater. There are 37 Rockhopper Penguins kept on Penguin Island, and two thirds of them were born in this aquarium. The cute baby penguins are highly popular among visitors. The aquarium was awarded the Koga prize for its breeding activities. The Koga prize is the most prestigious prize given to zoos and aquariums in Japan. There are also many other corners, including Dolphin Pool, Seal Island, Forest, where otters live, and Miura Nature Building. Miura Port nearby is famous for the landing of tuna catches, and the "Log Terrace" restaurant in the Aquarium offers various types of tuna dishes.
